Are you recharging your energy, or are you only giving it away?
As a coach, I often use different tools to help my clients become aware of how much energy they replenish compared to how much they use.
It's very easy to overlook the fact that we sometimes give more of ourselves than we actually have the energy for. But sooner or later, it usually starts to show, often through different symptoms. These might include tiredness, forgetfulness, low mood, anger, irritability, difficulty sleeping, or increased sugar cravings.
Sometimes these symptoms can also lead to other difficulties. For example, if you're feeling down, it's easy to start criticizing yourself and finding faults within yourself, when the real issue might be that you've been giving out more energy than you've been replenishing for a long time. We're often very good at helping others, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. Quite the opposite! But I see a clear tendency that many of us need to become better at taking care of ourselves, too.
So my question to you, as the autumn evenings grow darker, is: How do you recharge your energy?
Try making a list of the things that give you energy and the things that drain it.
Just because something takes energy doesn't mean it's negative. Family, work, and other important parts of life can be both meaningful and demanding at the same time.
What's important is becoming aware of the balance. How much energy are you replenishing, and how much are you using? If something in your life requires a great deal of energy, you also need to find ways to recover.
And it doesn't always have to involve big changes. Small breaks throughout the day can be incredibly valuable. When we become more aware of our needs, we can create little moments of recovery that really make a difference.
