The hardest part isn’t the grief
The hardest part isn’t the grief when we lose someone we love.
It’s also losing our footing, a part of who we once were, and the future we thought we were going to have.
When we lose someone we love, whether they have passed away or a relationship has ended, so much changes. Someone who was a natural part of our life is suddenly no longer there. You have to make new decisions, do things differently, and create new memories without that person. It’s not just difficult. It hurts not to have that person there to share life with anymore.
One thing that can help us move forward is to slowly begin shifting some of our focus from the person we miss back to ourselves.
What do I need right now?
It’s a question we don’t ask ourselves often enough. We’re often expected to simply keep going, without stopping to notice how we’re actually doing. But when we start asking ourselves that question and really dare to listen to the answer, something can slowly begin to change, both in our lives and in the way we carry our grief.
Grief looks different for everyone. It can vary in intensity and stay with us in different ways and for different lengths of time. But in the middle of it, we also need to take care of ourselves as best we can.
What do you need more of to feel a little better?
· More laughter?
· More connection?
· More movement?
· Healthier food?
· Clearer routines?
· More rest?
There are often small things we can do for our own wellbeing that are easily forgotten when we’re grieving.
So ask yourself this today:
What can I do to improve my wellbeing right here, right now?
